The Indianapolis Radio Club Newsletter Founded 1914 “The oldest continuously operating Amateur Radio Club in the United States” A recap of the events of the June 9, 2006 meeting. Prior to the meeting there was a short board meeting and Dave, K9RTT outlined the possible events for next fall and is working on programs such as a tour of Channel 8 TV, talks on SDR-1000 and 2nd version of “software” defined radios and radios used in race cars by our own Mike KE9YA. Also arrangements for the Christmas Dinner will be at MCL N.W. Indy same as last year. Other items included discussion of having food for K9OOA Joe Lobraico August 5th HAMFEST. Joe has the coffee and donuts and the IRC provides the hot dogs, some drinks and it is suggested to bring a “pitch-in” of some type if you see fit. It all adds up to a great day at 7373 Westfield Blvd…just north of Broad Ripple near the Monon Trail. See you there. Soon after, the tables were set up for the Auction, and items started piling up for inspection, discussion and trying to spot something you might wish to bid on and hopefully take home. There was a group of “hand held radios” from Paul Bohrer W9DUU that went for about $25.00 ea. and several of the local students were able to get some of these rigs. Dave K9RTT brought a lot of big electronic boxes, of all types which went quickly at very reasonable prices. Chuck W9IH brought in (2) Large 8 Ft. long 440 beams and a funny looking ISO Pole antenna which sold very reasonably… but I hope who ever got them had a truck and not a Mini Cooper to get them home. Various items, from a telephone answering system to meters and a large selection of nylon rods and plastic sheets as well as some QST magazines and various other items were sold carefully by Wes Murphy N9AJM, our usual Auction specialist. Good work Wes… glad it’s all over for another year. Tickets for the INDY Ham Fest were available and are at the Batteries Plus stores and some electronics stores around town (MAI, King, and Meunier) for the July 8th event. $6.00 Advance..$8.00 at the door. Point your browser to http://www.indyhamfest.com/ for more information. As we stood in line to settle up and pay or receive some money…it proved a good time to talk with others who we normally do not get a chance at a regular meeting. We hope everyone had a good time and we look forward to Joe’s Broad Ripple Ham Fest Swap meet on August 5th. (No Hail Damage to report) In fact my car wont be repaired until July 10th ! 73 Bob Osterhous W9PSE (Editor’s note: Special thanks to Bob, W9PSE, for supplying the above notes from the meeting and auction.) _____________________________________________________________ Upcoming Area Radio Events: * June 24 and 25: Field Day Known operating locations: Thompson ARC at W9IMS station, Red Cross Disaster Radio Group at Ft.
